Things randomly overheard in the last 24 hours:
"I think Asoka might be at a luxury spa vacation. Is she Obi Wan?"
"Hey! There's the macaroni and cheese. Wait! Don't eat it; it's made of glass and metal."
"The Clown King just called me an eye-shadow guy, and I am SO NOT an eye-shadow guy!! Let's GET HIM."
"If they see us sneak out of jail, we'll be in big trouble."
"But don't you remember, we have weapons?"
"Oh, yeah!"
"And the flavor is poison-berry."
"We are the Chosen Ones. I think I shall plunge the blade of my lightsaber into his foul, treacherous heart. We meet again, Clown King!"
"Don't worry, your legs will grow back."
"I don't think a chainsaw would work on him...or would it?"
Hmm. Maybe I shouldn't have sprinkled the acid on the pizza??

Biffing In

Sorry for the absence! Been spending a bit of time on the work front, but one show is now open, and another I'm directing has been mostly cast. Lots of knitting has been going on - in fact I have more WIPS than ever before in my life, I think! That kind of makes me crazy. Anyway, I have several major FO's too - all worn and loved, but not yet blogged about. I'm such a slacker.
Anyway, I'll catch it up. But for now, I'm off to decorate our tree and finish my mimosa.
Much love!

Zombie Queen
SO! Last night we were getting ready to go trick-or-treating, and it's a BIG deal in our neighborhood, let me just say. A total crush. So, honestly, I was dreading it. So at 6pm, Son is still in costume (of course) from his school party, and DH is actually pulling out an old costume from when he was in a band at a ren fair (yes, true.) Me? I'm laying in bed reading a vampire book, and that's about as festive as I got. At 6:30, they finally get to me, and I grudgingly agree to find something...not feeling it, but okay. Well, I had some vague thought about some old costume pieces I had, when I spied in the trunk an old over-the-top ballgown from my New Orleans days. Evil Genius was born. I whipped it out and declared, "I'll go as a ZOMBIE QUEEN!!" Because I was sooo not into feeling getting a pretty on. Well, DH is a smart man, so said nothing, but Son is young, and I'm his Mama, and he saw the very glamorous dress, very unlike anything I normally wear, and got very interested. However, the little man had OPINIONS. "Mom, you don't want to be that. You'll be a PRINCESS!"
Me:
*stare*
*patient smile*
"Honey, Mommie's going as a Zombie Queen!!"
Son: *horrified at his mother's ignorance*
"But that's ugly. No way. You need to be a fairy, then."
Me: "Zombie Queen."
Son: "But you'd look good as a princess!"
Me: *amused stare*
Son: *disgusted sigh*
SO! Off I whipped, dress on over cowboy boots (hello! we're walking here?) and I went for the extreme. Damn! Can I just say how much fun it is to put on make-up when you don't have to worry about being careful, tasteful, or suiting a character (work), or blend or fuss, or any of that?? I was just slapping on, and giggling MADLY. (Kim Hargreaves book "Heartfelt" as my inspiration.) And the more I did (a note here - the entire process from finding the dress to walking out the door took no more than 10 minutes tops), then more I laughed and got into it. Hey! This Halloween shit it FUN! When did I forget this?? When did I become so 'grown-up' that it became a chore? It used to be the holiday I looked forward to and planned like a general.
I have no idea. But, I'll tell you what: I had some FUN last night, and it was a needed wake-up call. Perhaps because I do 'dress-up' for a living, and it's got such high stakes attached to it (getting a job, keeping a job, thereby paying tuition, etc., not to mention that I love what I do so I approach it rather seriously), it's bled some of the sheer old-fashioned giggle of discovery over looking into the mirror, or into someone else's eyes, and seeing amazement.
Can I just say? Turning to my son, who had been watching the zombie-ing process with disgusted fascination, and seeing amazed joy/wary unrecognition in his eye, and then giving an evil cackle and chasing him through the house moaning, "BRAINS!!!!" as he squealed and giggled like a much younger boy, was priceless. We had an awesome time.
Happy Halloween to you all, and here's wishing that sense of playful discovery, and the chance to look in the mirror and see something totally fabulous.
The dawn!! It burns us!!!Now, I just have to go wash the glitter out of my hair. It itches.

Not Susan Lucci Anymore
Wow! I'm so excited...let me catch you up:
So you know how Susan Lucci is a soap star who was apparently nominated for Emmy awards every year for like...456,326,238 times in a row, and never, never...never won?? But then the stars aligned, her karma cleared, she held her mouth just right, and she got one? (Or was it more than one?) Anyway! The point was that she was pretty famous for being nominated every time, and never winning. Which I am sure, she turned to such a way that she made it work for her, that the not winning became almost a point of pride, and definition of individuality? That she was at least famous for never winning; famous for what an amazingly good sport she was? ... But then she actually won one?? And then, when the name of the winner was read and everyone turned to look at her (after the split second of realizing that everyone was indeed looking at her because she won, and not in order to gloat in the sight of her familiar defeat) do you think...do you think it's just a tiny bit possible, that she was maybe the very littlest bit regretful that her streak of famously being overlooked was broken??
NAH!
She was all, "It's FREAKING AWESOME TO BE A WINNER, PEOPLE!!!"
How do I know whereof I speak?? Ahem. Well, having never won an award before in my life (despite being nominated only a half dozen times or so, instead of a million and six) I have now actually WON TWO IN ONE MONTH!!
(heeheehee!)
Okay, now the catching up part. I was flattered to be in the fellow company of some amazing artists who were given DFW Critics Forum Awards this year for a show that I absolutely adored. That was lovely, let me tell you.
And then, ...then! My little ol' blog was so very generously nominated for an award!! Whoot!!
Thank you so much to the lovely Canarysanctuary for a most kind nod, as well as some a lovely comment. (The feeling is mutual!) From my last post it's obvious that I love her aesthetic, and if you have seen my Ravelry queue, you'll know I'm planning on making a couple more of her designs.
So, in gratitude, and in order to do my part, the rules are:
1- Post the award on your blog. - done
2- Add a link to the person who gave you the award - done, and done
3- Nominate at least 4 other bloggers and add their links - see below
4 - Leave them a comment on their blogs to let them know they've been nominated - getting to next.
Here are my lovely nominees, in no particular order, but all blogs I read word by word every time they hit my bloglines, and all who have make me pause, smile, think, cry, or whoop for joy:
Whoopee
Purls Before Frogs
Pearls and Jules of Wisdom
Babycocktails and Knitting
Knit n'Lit
Coiled
Celtic Memory Yarns
I send thanks to you all, a big hug, and...pass the cupcakes!

Mah-mah-mah-Myee Corona
FO Alert: Corona, knit in Dream In Color Classy, 3.5 skeins of 'Ruby River' colorway. I lurve it. Still need to block the cable corona, but I actually kind of like the slouchy feel of it as is. Super-comfy, and the color?? The COLOR!!! (aaahhhh! choirs of angels sing) Also, if you haven't yet knit with this base yarn, do yourself a kindness and get some!! It's so bouncy and springy! And machine-washable! And dryable! (Yet I prefer to air-dry it, as it gets a bit roughed up in my dryer.)

Thoughts on this Sweater: I loved it. The pattern is well written, and it's an enjoyable and easy knit. Small niggly thing, if I ever knit it again, however, I'll knit a shorter, and short-rowed hood...guess I have a short neck, but at 11" it won't stay on my head. Also, I am not a fan of the pointiness factor. Not that I ever wear hoods up, anyway. But, ya know.
Aaaand, sometimes it takes a little vino to get that FO. I picked up this Barking Sheep, when I saw it in Target, and I remembered hearing about it on the Lime n'Violet podcast (#??). Thoughts: total crap. However, I adore the label, lol!
For a new wine find I love: 2004 Chariot's Central Coast Sangiovese. Yummy.
